I second the heater function. The only problem I have is it takes some time to warm up. Yeah...that's in the room I SLEEP in.

To the OP: We're on the verge of getting the new generation of SSDs from Intel, Micron, and SandForce over the next few months. Probably best to wait a bit to see how the new ones are (and/or wait for the current-gen ones to drop in price).

The Denison unit seems good enough, but I don't like the dock....bulky.
I'd prefer the solution Monster has come up with, that is, just a cable to connect to the iPod...no dock.
I wonder what the prices are like for the Denison ice>Link is. $200 for the Monster solution seems pretty steep.
You can get the Denision unit without the dock too, just the cable. Same price either way though.

This is definitely one of those "what language should I learn threads?", but I'm not a beginner. Let me give a little background: I graduated in 2007 with a degree in computer technology (not science) with a focus on software development and web development. While in school, I hired on with an automotive supplier as a contracted radio technician with hopes of getting my foot in the door with writing software. It's taken a while, but I'm now getting ready to be trained in our next product we're working on and will possibly be writing test scripts in C# .NET. I'm looking forward to the experience and knowledge I will gain but long-term, it's not where my passion is. I enjoy some web development, but haven't had much experience with it since college and haven't had any reason to delve deeper into it. Recently, I've had a few people approach me about building websites for them for a salary, so it's started to spark some interest into that field again. I have experience with several languages: Java, HTML, C#, ASP, SQL, PL/SQL, some Objective-C, C. But it's only at a very intermediate level, nothing advanced like Java servlets, Cocoa, or .NET framework specific. In my spare time, I'd like to delve deeper into something more advanced. I love the Mac platform for development just because a lot of things are built into the system already. Some languages I'm thinking of looking into are:
1. Java (specifically Tomcat and Spring)
2. Objective-C (Cocoa, iPhone)
3. Ruby (Rails)
I know #1 and #3 are more web specific and might be beneficial because of my background in web development, but I really like the surge going on with Objective-C and the Mac and iPhone platforms. But would this help on a career level? I want to pick one where there's a strong demand for it and something that puts food on the table. I'm not talking about just writing apps for the app store, but writing apps for businesses that use Macs. It just seems like it's hard to land an entry or junior level job out therre without some type of experience. My main experience now is just education and I'd like to dig deeper into these frameworks out there that are used to work on a project that might gain me experience to show employers. Are there advantages to learning one framework over another or should I just pick one and go with it? I know Java and .NET are used a lot in the enterprise, but it seems like there's no shortages of these developers out there. I was wondering if anyone else has seen this issue while running Windows 7 from boot camp: My internal speakers don't work - but all sounds work perfectly if I plug in a pair of headphones. I've read about a lot of cases where Windows 7 still assumes a pair of headphones have been plugged in with other Macs and that 'jiggling' the headphones resolves the issue, but that's not my problem. Windows 7 reports - correctly - that headphones are NOT plugged in, yet still no sound through my speakers.
To make it even more frustrating, my speakers were working for the first few boots into Windows 7, but now I can't get a single sound. I've tried reloading all the latest bootcamp drivers, installing other sound drivers (Realtek and Cirrus) with no results. I don't boot into Win 7 often, but it would be nice to have sound. It's these kind of issues that do NOT make me miss the Win experience. :)

The Snow Leopard UTD lasted from June 8 to December 29.

I'm still relatively new to OS X, but holding the option key is the only way I know of to select which disk to boot. If there is another way (e.g., a boot-time menu or something that didn't require holding a key), I'd be interested to know about it.

Honestly I don't see a huge difference(atleast a difference that would make one better then the other) in the plot between GTA and Godfather...different places, different goals. Not sure how one is better then the other.

Yup, I got the ad screen when I went to the site out of curiosity, after seeing this thread. Pathetic and annoying.
I used to like Spymac but I stopped visiting the site last year after the changes. Sure it may have its fans but to me it's a pile of dung. Can someone please explain where the "spy" is in Spymac, especially these days?

I was wondering what you were talking about wih colors so I whipped out my MacBook for the first time in weeks

I have found SL to be very stable.
I am curious as to how you define "crash". As a software developer, I have always considered a crash to be a segfault in which some bug causes the program to unexpectedly exit. However I have found that, via feedback from my users, that folks have many different perceptions as to what a crash is.
As for the software you mentioned having issues with - I don't use steam (not a gamer), I use itunes somewhat regularly to play some music while I work, or to update my phone's software, don't have any crash issues. I use iWork from time-to-time - don't recall it ever crashing. The most unstable software I use is MS Office.

keith is probably right re: dv import, i don't use imovie so i don't know (thus the version history link). There shouldn't be any qualitative difference btwn DV files imported on older / newer machines and the import from tape is in real-time, so an old machine will crank away just as well as anything. The new machine will make a big difference when actually transcoding, editing, and exporting.

I too have been using Mactubes, and it works better than the in-browser flash player, but I can't seem to get quicktime to work.

That's the error that I get when I switch to Quicktime. Any ideas?
You need to upgrade to version 3.0.4. Occasionally Youtube changes something in their urls, I think, and the program's author has to update (which he/she does promptly).

sorry about that guys. I just thought that since it worked for me I'd get it out there. I just figured out about that ssh blobs stuff and so for me the easier way to do it was using sn0wbreeze. After the fact that I did a little more research which o shoudve have done earlier before
