Microsoft seems to be making every attempt to encourage piracy at this point. Is it possible for Windows to check this and refuse to run? It seems to me Microsoft is attempting to take control of hardware virally, i.e. if their EULAs were enforceable they are including statements that allow them to dictate what hardware you have and when/how you upgrade it...

"If you want to upgrade your computer, you need to call and ask us first. If you want to run our software, it better be on hardware we approve of, ask us who sells that."

There are some who claim that as long as Microsoft doesn't enforce their own EULAs then let them say what they want. Some will claim that the EULAs won't hold up in court so who cares what they say. Is it prudent to assume this and just hope for the best?

Wow, glad I avoided the Brea store, sounds like a mess.

Ended up grabbing two from the South Coast location (one for myself, and one for work to develop with, as they let me go early to go stand in line). Arrived around 2:30, and the line was around 300 at that point, with it mostly outside. Thanks to the guy next to me for providing sunscreen, I got a bit of a tan but avoided a full sunburn.

What was strange is that mall security would yell at anyone with a foldout chair, claiming it's a safety issue since it would block more of the sidewalk and not allow people to easily walk by without stepping into the road. Seems reasonable, until I noticed all the Apple employees just kept going up and down the road anyhow and security said nothing. Oh well.

One tip an employee was passing along was to buy whatever model you could if they didn't have the exact one you wanted, then take advantage of the 14 day return policy later. Might be a bit rough for some people though with the expected stock shortages, but will also mean a likely appearance of the iPad 2 on the refurb side quicker then normal for folks looking to save a bit.

We can't have an opinion (which is shared by others) it seems. Yeah, what exactly do you know? You were stating point blank that the seizure was obviously fake, and using various random, similarly unqualified posters to back you up. Whether it was a real seizure, a panic attack, blind terror or pure acting, what does it matter? You have no way of knowing, and it is not germane to the subject. If you have seen somebody kicked hard in the head and they end up having what appears to be a seizure shortly afterwards, it is far more appropriate to offer support rather than assuming anything at all.

Get used to more Inspectors with Tab Views and less Toolbars. Cocoa apps are designed with Inspector Views.

Inspectors are good for certain things. Like a window for working with all the graphic editing that iPhoto provides for an image. It is NOT so good for what Pages uses it for. And inspectors are not a Cocoa thing. I use tons of Cocoa apps and many don't use inspectors. Its a general UI thing - the programming API should have nothing to do with what UI comes out of it.

Maybe they're testing this so that when AT&T and T-Mo combine, future iPhones will be able to use the T-Mobile 3G bands, even though the phone would still be exclusive to AT&T (and of course, Verizon).

Wow, 1.61 million Macs, what a quarter. Way to go Apple.

Back on October 10, Switch To A Mac predicted that Apple would sell 1.64 million Macs during the quarter. That was a very close prediction.

Analysts were expecting only 1.47 million Macs.

Here's the Switch To A Mac predicion (http://switchtoamac.com/site/preview-apples-q4-2006-financial-earnings-mac-sales-increase.html)

But most reasonable people should realize that being drunk in the ghetto as a transgendered guy isn't the brightest idea.

Again, you're simply being offensive by referring to her as a "transgendered guy", never mind the fact that the whole mentality of victim blaming works on EXACTLY those principles.

Women who are raped often would not have been raped had they dressed differently or avoided a certain area, is it their fault now? Victim blaming is victim blaming, she had the right to enter that establishment and use the loos she did, she was attacked for it. The only people in the wrong were the attackers and arguably the staff for not intervening

Are you seriously suggesting that this woman should just stay at home rather than risk going outside because her very nature could inflame people to attack her?

Are you implying that black underprivileged people can't handle transsexuality, but white middle class people can? This **** happens everywhere, it even happened in san francisco about a month ago.

Your whole mentality is downright offensive.

Fear and greed, as always the two opposing driving forces behind the markets. Both are emotions and neither are rational. Just something to consider whenever you are tempted to say that the sky is either the limit, or it's falling. Chances are, neither is true.

Right, and Cocoa isn't the slightest bit bloated? (can you say runtime messaging and binding overhead?)

I'm not saying that the actual virtualization should be done in Cocoa (ha yeah right), but the GUI definitely should. Parallels takes way too long to launch, and the GUI sucks.

Plus, do you really think a Qt C++ wrapper around Carbon is faster than direct Cocoa calls?

I just want a nice documented-based Cocoa app that behaves like a Mac app, with a fast virtualization at its core :)

I haven't read all the messages, but I'm wondering....
How many of you that have been waiting and whining actually took the plunge this morning? I can say for a fact that I did. Just curious to see how many people are still saying, "...But, the MBP still lacks a male genitalia insert port."
Cynical, you say? Yes, I've been on these forums long enough to see people constantly complain for the next best thing, even on new release days.

    Anyway, here's my order again (because I'm ***** excited) :D :

MacBook Pro 15-inch Glossy Widescreen Display
    2GB 667 DDR2 SDRAM - 2x1GB
    2.33GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    Apple USB Modem
    Backlit Keyboard/Mac OS - U.S. English
    160GB Serial ATA Drive @ 5400 rpm
    Accessory Kit
    SuperDrive 6x (DVD+R DL/DVDRW/CD-RW)

I'm taking the plunge as well! Who needs a life savings anyway?

Why are you equating "cross-dresser" and "pedophile"?

Also you do realize that gender roles and gender distinctions are purely socially constructed concepts that hold no real barring on reality.

Calling someone "creeeeepy" because they do not fit into your preconceived notion of gender is kind of ****ed up no?

The two were separate qualifiers. I wouldn't imagine that a male pedophile that ISN'T cross-dressing would try to walk into a womens' restroom. I was *NOT* meaning to imply that all cross-dressers are pedophiles.

To me, "transgender" means someone who identifies as the opposite of their birth gender the vast majority of the time. "Cross-dresser" means someone who primarily identifies as one gender, but occasionally dresses as the other gender. Yes, it is possible to have a transgender cross-dresser, someone who primarily identifies as the opposite of their birth gender, but occasionally dresses as their birth gender.

I have no problem with "regular" cross-dressers. But if they identify as their birth gender the majority of the time, they should use their birth gender-labeled restroom. If they identify as the opposite gender the majority of the time, even if they are still physically their birth gender, then I don't have a problem with them using their identified-as restroom.

And, yes, I fully agree that calling someone creepy because they do not fit into preconceived notions of gender is ********* up. People are people, regardless of outward appearances.

I'm 99% certain iPhone 5 is announced at WWDC. Doesn't make sense to go further out, especially with Android bringing up the rear in a big hurry. I think iOS 5 and iPhone 5 are ready and being polished as we speak. Remember, the Verizon iPhone 4 came on the scene in a rush with little to zero leakage. Sure, everyone knew it was coming. But no one knew exactly when up until the last week, and I don't recall seeing much in the way of pre-release photos or detailed information before that.

Apple is good at secrets, and I think the high-profile leaks that have snuck out the last few products have forced them to tighten up the supply chain even further. I'd be shocked if iPhone 5 was pushed to September, let alone 2012 as some have suggested. I guess we'll see.

I sent Apple a long description about how to build a GPS location service into .Mac, iPods, PowerMacs, and with a proximity sensor.

This was right after the kid in NY was killed for his iPod.

Remember SJ promised a fix for this.

I wonder if the proximity sensor will be wiresless disposable earphones

As for REMOTE TOUCH I still think all touch screen actions will work best with the fingers on the BACK of the device and with them graphically and transparently reflected over the interface.

And probably the ULTIMATE use of finger laser tracking would be a keyboard that has keys with multiple depths, dispose of those shift keys ! I also sent them a suggestion for a keyboard like this but that idea did not use laser tracking, it used a new type of button

If the touch area for the hands were just flat wings on the back the swung outwards, they could also act as a support for the screen EXACTLY LIKE the traditional book holder:eek:

$1000 worth of a beating he'd get if i were his parent. Luckily for kids, i hate them and would never have one. Ever.

Had I done this as a kid, I would have been beaten for it.
Not like bamboo cane or whip beating though, just paddle and maybe belt beating. TBH, in retrospect it really wasn't that bad, and I really did learn to be a pretty decent human being. I turned out just fine too, in fact, I'd like to think better than some of my peers. But that's a bit pretentious, so I digress.

There's obviously a large debate over child punishment though, with adamant supporters on either side of the fence. Which one is right is really a gray zone in my opinion, and while I would like to think soft punishment would be sufficient for my future kids, I definitely see the use for the other side. I think moderation is key in this area; I mean you don't want to see kids running around wild, but at the same time you shouldn't beat your kid senseless. Unfortunately, in today's society everything is construed as child abuse, and I fear that we have strayed a little too far left towards "soft" punishment. But that's just me, I'm sure many of you feel differently.

That was a little off topic.

90 day refund policy w/ iTunes, if I do recall correctly; but I'm sure there's many caveats.
