After the Month of Kernel Bugs, are you concerned about Mac OS X security?
No - 62%
See, that bugs me. Everyone should be concerned about security. I believe OS X's overriding security feature is obscurity, and once that situation changes I can see the OS falling over very quickly.
One of the weakest links in the chain is the user, and if the user is not concerned then you have a problem.
Dont get me wrong, I think OS X is great, but it just hasn't been "weathered" in the wild like Windows has. If OS X becomes a viable target then we're in for a bumpy ride.

As expected really. Shame about no graphics card update, but it's better than no upgrade at all.
Now next year, we want HD screens Apple ;)

Hi everyone, just joined the team.
I have an iMac core duo going at it. She isn't much with her 1.83Ghz but it'll be at it 24h a day. It's about to complete it's first WU after 1day 19hours. It sounds a bit long to me compared to the times a say reading the thread, is this normal?
Yes. My 2.13 iMac takes 1 day 9 hours ish...

Twitter is the best news organization.
I agree. That's where I found out about it.
To be honest, as much as it may be a good thing, I have a feeling something bad is going to happen.
The only sad part is that it took the US this long to find him. Osama should of been dead 10 years ago.

really sorry to hear that. reading about the insanely long lines at the apple store in brea, i headed over to best buy in fullerton instead. arrived at 1p and was 13th or so in line. i wish you all the luck in getting an ipad soon.
and i find that really surprising. despite at&t's faster (when available) data speeds, i've always found coverage to be completely spotty, especially in fullerton and brea. opted for a verizon ipad.
Nice I was 4th in line at the fullerton best buy. I was so happy best buy had enough

You are just embarrassing yourself with that 'source'.
http://www.acq.osd.mil/ie/irm/irm_library/BSR2006Baseline.pdf
Read the 190 page structure report from the department of defense for yourself. My source was just a simple exert of the baseline report. Face the reality that we are over extended in many ways... and I am really glad your not handling my portfolio :P

I'm going to assume it doesn't mean that you actually control the thing without touching it, rather it just makes the wheel disappear when you aren't holding it. That seems to be a more useful idea.
I mean, otherwise, it's a useless feature, except to prevent screen scratching.
Yeah, if you read the whole patent (http://www.appleinsider.com/article.php?id=1902), you'll notice that it makes mention of "force sensors" underneath the display to tell if it is a "light" or "hard" touch. A finger being waved above an object doesn't have force to sense, and in looking at the more tablet-oriented part of the patent, you can see that a hand is clearly holding the object (http://images.appleinsider.com/patent-ipod-touch19.gif). The document also makes several references to the input devices appearing or disappearing based on the proximity of a finger.
It would seem that the main purpose of this is to make overlays like this possible:
http://guides.macrumors.com/images/thumb/d/dd/1fullipodav.jpg/800px-1fullipodav.jpg
This isn't a "none-touch" patent.

1) Lose job at Engadget
2) Start new website
3) Publish iphone "rumor" to attract readership
4) Profit!
do you know how dumb that is? He's moving on to a new company. Along with multiple other people. Also, he was dead on about the Verizon iPhone a YEAR before everyone else. I think his inside sources are more accurate than you think.
Also, remember when everyone thought the leaked iPhone 4 was really ugly and there was no way it was real. Exactly...

So sincere curiosity here: I've read the reviews and it seems like this browser can't do all the Flash-related stuff a personal would normally want to do, ranging from some popular video sites like Hulu to Flash games. I'm not missing Flash on my iPhone or iPad one bit, but I'm also a little curious at this browser's success. Is it mostly people downloading something because they feel like they're getting a thing they were told they couldn't get? Or does this product actually offer something excellent?

Stop the Lifetime Movie idea right there. I mean there is the whole law school graduation requirement to take the Bar in most states (maybe all) if we want to be realistic.

Look, it is not my intention to cast any aspersions on carterx, but it would be totally STUPID for anyone to download and install software that's sitting on a site other than the offical one (vmware.com in this case) just because someone posted it to a forum. Doubly so when the link is posted by someone who's joined the forum in the past few days!
People, you need to use some security sense. Nine times out of ten a link posted by a random user is probably safe; but it's that other time you need to worry about. Especially now that Macs have a higher profile.

I think you are all wrong. On the BMW model names "ix" stands for a fuel injection engine and four-wheel drive. I believe there is an OS M coming for certain BMW models.
+1
OS M-series would be awesome but I just can't afford the insurance.

Seriously, no one is questioning this? I don't care how big this woman is, no one can eat 90 pounds of food plus 2 hams and 5 loaves of bread.
I'm with you. If they took all the food they claim she ate in one sitting and piled it up, the pile would be bigger than her.
I don't care how fat you are, that's more volume than a human can consume. She would've either vomited or exploded.

Never ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever.........
...take anything an AT&T rep says at face value. This is coming from a type of representative, where in my battles earlier this year with AT&T attempting to get back to unlimited data, who told me there was nothing they could do but gave me advice on how to seamlessly switch to Verizon (including how to port my phone number and suggested I keep my AT&T account open until I switch to VZ).
While I fully believe this story did actually take place, I believe the rep has 'ZERO' credibility.
FYI: My later wrangling with corporate was a lot more pleasant and yielded me my Unlimited iPhone data plan back.

Anti glare is not matt. The old imacs with matt screens were impossible to calibrate and had terrible issues with 'white-out'. The glass screens are a massive improvement and anyone with half a brain cell can sort their set up so that glare is a non issue.
Says the guy who must live in an apartment with the shades drawn, or his parents basement, or some other wonderful computer dungeon.
I am surrounded by windows, wonderful views, and don't want to close all my blinds and and be in the dark so that I can use my awesome reflective computer monitor. I appreciate that the glass may be wonderful for some, but understand that it is awful for others. The option for a matte screen is logical. Open your mind, respect the views of others, and stop being a tool.
Take what I say with a grain of salt though, I don't even have half a brain cell.

Did you read any of the thread so far?
You can use Vista Home standalone in a virtualization environment legally.
This is purely a misinterpretation of the EULA.
If they didn't understand this on /., they're not going to understand this here, either.

...guys, I was wondering...
Does BOOT CAMP already support DUAL-CORE under XP ?
Sorry for the ignorance, just bought me a new Macbook and going to install either PARALLELS or BOOT CAMP ( waiting for VMWARE... :p )
Thanks for feedback !=)
Yes, BootCamp uses the hardware natively, so that means dual-core support. As to whether you should use bootcamp or Parallels... Well I guess that ultimatly depends on what you need windows for... 3D games or REALLY CPU untensive App? Go for bootcamp. Otherwise, parallels does the trick nicely and doesn't require you to reboot (a BIG bonus for me...)

Dammit. I misread this article title as "Page 3 features" as in the Page 3 of Macrumors we had for April Fools.
You're not alone...you're the third one in this thread to mention it.
