I wish we had seen comparable numbers for the current MBA. Does it pull more than advertised under load? How much? If not, why not? Is turbo boost to blame?
The 35W is only the TDP of the processor. It doesn't include the harddrive, screen, chipset, battery charger, etc. So that's perfectly normal.
Also, TDP is not a perfectly accurate figure for power draw. It's the maximum a computer designer should budget for, both in terms of power supply, cooling, etc. So it means that in any case the sustained power draw of the processor alone won't exceed this.
It is, however, perfectly possible that the CPU draws much less power, even in a high-load situation. That could possibly be true for the current C2D's in the MBA, because they are a bit older and therefore intel might have got the process developed a bit more efficiently. So it could well be that the C2D's are working at powers below their TDP budget, while the Sandy Bridge ones are reaching the top of their budget.

When your sales numbers for phones are ~50% of that of your competitor; whereas a few years ago they were barely a blip, then yes that means they are getting kicked in the teeth in handset OS sales.

Apple even sells more phones than Google :rolleyes: In-fact, Google's phone hardware effort was an Epic Fail by any measure. Funny how people can't grasp the "market" that Apple competes in - hardware. With a greater market cap that exceeds Microsoft or Google, I don't think Apple is too worried.

Looking forward to owning my first glossy display too. I imagine it's beautiful for photo editing+gaming.
Get ready for disappointment. The glossy screen sucks for both photo editing and gaming. Once you have some dark colors on the screen there are reflections all over the place, even in a relatively dark room. Imagine working on a night shot or running through ravenholm in half life 2 with constant reflections from pretty much everything around you - including you.
I used to be a fan of the glossy, but any more I get so irritated with it. I have a matte screen at work and I kept thinking, the colors and textures are so rich. Oh wait, its because I can actually see them. I may go Mac Pro for the Video card and 3rd party monitor option next time.
I sold my 24" glossy iMac last summer for a low end 2010 Mac Pro + 27" Dell screen and have not regretted it ever since. A propper gpu & a matte sreen offer a way better computing experience for me that was well worth the price. :)

i have a family plan with a 3G, 3GS and 2 cheapo phones. my wife and her parents came from Verizon. we live in NYC and no one ever complains about dropped calls. i've had a few from inside a converted factory building with very thick walls

This is exactly what I am saying. They aren't making devices for people who demand to have the latest and greatest regardless of the consequences. They make devices that work and meet their internal standards.
What you don't understand is that Apple makes a device that meets their goals and standards. They don't want to ship a phone that gets four hours of battery life because they know that very few people will be happy with that.
Of course people may want something different, which is why, strangely enough, Apple isn't the only phone manufacturer in the world. You are not forced to buy Apple if you don't like their philosophy.
Well, it looks like we actually agree. I just wanted to make this point clear that Apple cares only about profits (as all companies) which puts iOS users in a position where they have very few options: Apple way or highway. It's different with Android.
Then leave these forums. Clearly apple-related news is not for you. Clearly you want a phone that apple does not provide. Why are you even here? The truth is, nobody is stopping you from buying that android with 4 hours of battery life if it is more suited to your tastes. You are not entitled in any way to force Apple to make a device that suits your needs. Go buy the Thunderbolt. Enjoy it.

I will say the market seems to disagree.
It seems to be 4-4.3 in screens is the sweet spot. 4.5 seems to be 2 big but 4-4.3 people seem to like.
Unless you take into consideration that not a single one of those phones sell even remotely as well as the iPhone.
